Stella didn’t press it. She knew the butler was stubborn once he made up his mind.
Matthew arrived at the hospital and walked into the ward. His eyes immediately landed on the two gift bags on the table, confirming Betsey’s story.
His anger flared, but with the butler and Clint there, he held it in and asked about Clint’s condition.
After Stella explained Clint’s condition, she noticed how worn out Matthew Looked and, concerned, suggested, “You should go home and get some rest.”
Matthew snapped, “Are you really that eager to get rid of me for someone else?”
Stella stared at him, unable to believe it at first, thinking he was joking, but his serious expression made it clear he wasn’t.
The butler could sense the tension and asked for permission to leave, but Stella asked him to stay with Clint.
She pulled Matthew into the hallway, her heart filled with confusion and frustration. “Matthew, what do you mean by that?” Stella asked.
Matthew frowned. “Stella, you know what you did today.”
Stella thought for a moment and quickly understood the situation.
After Betsey was taken to the police station, Lindsay would definitely reach out to Matthew.
Stella asked, “Lindsay reached out to you, right?”
Matthew’s silence, his lips pressed together, said it all.
Stella’s heart raced with anger. “You actually believed Betsey? How many times do I have to say that I don’t have any inappropriate relationship with Sanford?”
Her voice trembled, tears welling up, her heart heavy with sorrow.
Matthew realized his mistake. He reached to wipe away her tears, but she slapped his hand away.
Stella took a step back. “You should go home. I’m really tired.”
Matthew wanted to say something, but Stella had already moved aside and started walking away.
He was following her when he saw Sanford coming toward them. Matthew stiffened at once.
Stella, too, froze when she saw Sanford. “Sanford, what are you doing here?” she asked.
Sanford handed her the repaired phone and, seeing Matthew, greeted him casually, “You’re here, Mr. Clark? I picked up some late-night snacks. Want some?”
Sanford stood there, holding a food container.
Matthew’s expression hardened as he stared at Sanford.
Remembering their last argument, Stella worried there might be another fight at the hospital.
